Our studio brings together designers and artisans to guide every project from 2D/3D design through custom fabrication, with an attention to detail recognized by the SIDIM Prix d'excellence and the Prix Pierre-Page. We design private residences and commercial spaces alike, for clients who value timeless design and flawless execution.
Mario Lafrenais
Mario Lafrenais is the founder and creative soul of Le Moine Urbain, a Montreal design studio he launched from his home on rue Saint-Dominique in the Plateau Mont-Royal in 2004. A self-taught designer who began his career as a hairdresser, he built his reputation designing custom stone sinks and kitchen basins unlike anything else on the market at the time, quickly turning Le Moine Urbain into a design success story. In 2016, growing demand led him to open a larger atelier-boutique on Avenue Laurier Ouest. Today he leads a team of some 25 artisans and technicians, including cabinetmakers, stone carvers, steelworkers and glassmakers, crafting kitchens, bathrooms and furniture entirely made to measure. His philosophy favors raw, honest materials, pure lines and objects built to outlast trends. His work has earned four SIDIM excellence awards, the Prix Pierre-Pagé and two Ferdie awards, and has furnished the homes of clients such as Guy Laliberté and Jacques Villeneuve.
